Years ago, downtown Jackson was like any other capital city. People walked the streets, businesses thrived and life was busy downtown. Today it is not the same. This building, "The Standard Life" building, was built in 1929 as an office building. Today it had flats that are rented. It is the 4th tallest building in Jackson. There has been a drive to bring life back to downtown but it has been a very slow process and not working out as they had planned. Where you see the cars parked is in front of the new convention center. Buildings were in that space but they have been torn down. It really is sad how downtown has not remained a vital part of the capital city!
